A while ago, before an important Go match, I visited a Shiba Inu café in Asakusa. I had never spent time around the breed before, and I loved them. So when I got back to America and started thinking about getting a dog, I already knew exactly what I wanted.

Nikko was born on January 10, 2025, and she came home with me on March 7. I picked her up from DFW airport. She had just been separated from her mother and she was tiny, honestly more like a little fox than a dog.

I had spent a long time imagining names. Yume, Fuji, Kai. But the breeder had already named her, and once I looked up the kanji I decided to keep it. Nikko means sunlight. That felt right, so I left it.

So far she has been exactly that!

Welcome to my life Nikko-chan! :) Bring lots of sunshine to my life!

P.S. We have an instagram page for her! Handle is heyitsnikkochan: https://www.instagram.com/heyitsnikkochan/. Do not forget to follow our adventures, yay! 🥳
